Dr. John O'Brien is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He was born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York, received his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University with honors and completed his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Dr. O'Brien completed a five-year General Surgery Residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo. During his Chief Residency he was awarded the "Resident Teacher of the Year Award" as voted by the University medical students.
His plastic surgery training was completed at St. Joseph Hospital and the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. While there, he worked with some of the true pioneers in plastic and reconstructive surgery. He was involved with several international goodwill missions for reconstructive surgery in Central America.
Dr. O'Brien entered private practice in St Petersburg, Florida in 1994. He has given community talks on many aspects of plastic surgery. He has also given lectures to many of the hospital medical staffs on new developments and techniques in plastic and reconstructive surgery. He has written articles and a book chapter for medical publications. He continues to update his training by attending national and local plastic surgery conferences and meetings.

Dr. O'Brien is on staff at four local hospitals and offers a wide selection of surgical facilities for his patients. Cosmetic surgery is also performed at our new, fully accredited, state-of-the-art outpatient surgical facility. We have an experienced, caring staff and Board Certified anesthesiologists to provide you with a safe operative experience.
Our office surgical facility is fully accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF).

Dr. O'Brien and his wife, Michelle, have three sons and reside in St Petersburg. He is an avid water-skier, boater and a local triathlete.
